What we do

Cats Protection was founded in 1927 and has since grown to become the UK’s leading feline welfare charity. Through a network of volunteers and employees in 250 branches and over 30 centres, the organisation now helps around 200,000 cats and kittens a year.

As well as looking after cats, we provide information for cat owners. This is sent out via our publications, such as The Cat magazine, website and other digital channels as well as being supported by our National Information Line. Here are just some of the services we provide as an organisation in keeping with our key aims – homing, neutering and education.

Rehoming cats

Cats Protection rehomed over 41,000 cats and kittens in 2018 thanks to our network of branches and centres, giving them a new start in life. If you're interested in adopting a cat, take a look at our guide.

Your cat into our care

Giving up your cat is never an easy decision. From moving home and relationship break-ups to changes in the family and even bereavements, there are many reasons why owners have to rehome their cat.

While some situations are unavoidable, there are some circumstances where you may be able to keep your feline friend.

Speaking to your local Cats Protection will ensure your pet is in a safe place and can be placed in the right home.
