Your support gives someone like me a chance to live - Stephanie's story

"I am a nurse, and, in January 2023, I was studying for a master’s degree. I was driving home from university along a single carriageway when an oncoming van crossed over into my lane. The impact of the collision caused me multiple serious injuries, including a head injury. A Thames Valley Air Ambulance critical care paramedic and doctor crew set about performing the highest level of pre-hospital care on me, right there and then.

With multiple open fractures, I was losing a lot of blood and needed urgent blood transfusions, which the crew started straight away. I received eight units of blood in total
and essentially replaced almost all the blood in my body.

The next thing I knew, it was five weeks later. I had no idea what happened or why I was there. My head injury caused memory loss from the incident and from the weeks afterwards.

I wouldn’t have survived without the advanced medical care that Thames Valley Air Ambulance provided. I’m under no illusions that without them, I probably wouldn’t have made it through. That’s why I hope you’ll take part in their Christmas Raffle. By doing so you’ll help their crew reach people going through the most traumatic day of their lives."
