Midlands Air Ambulance Charity is one of the longest established, largest and busiest air ambulance operators in the UK. We serve the largest air ambulance region in the UK. This includes the communities of Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, West Midlands, and Worcestershire, representing a population in excess of seven million.
Since founding in May 1991, we have been there in moments of medical emergency and trauma, providing advanced clinical care when it matters most.
We operate three air ambulance helicopters and a fleet of critical care cars. The Charity's airbases are strategically located at Cosford (on the Shropshire/West Midlands border), Tatenhill in Staffordshire, and Strensham Services on the M5 near the Gloucestershire/Worcestershire border.
Each mission is delivered by a highly skilled clinical crew comprising of advanced pre-hospital emergency medicine doctors and critical care paramedics, all equipped with full life-support medical equipment to provide hospital-level care at the scene of an incident. The aircraft is additionally crewed by a specialist pilot, trained to fly and land safely in both complex urban environments and challenging rural locations.
Our crews bring advanced pre-hospital emergency care to the patient within an average of 10 minutes across the Midlands region. The sooner a patient receives enhanced pre-hospital emergency care on-scene, the greater their chances of survival and the better their outcome.
The lifesaving service operates 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Each year it costs over £16million to keep the three charity helicopters and fleet of critical care cars operational. The charity receives no government funding for its services and relies entirely on donations, fundraising and community support to remain operational.
