Jason struggled to make a fresh start after the Army, but thanks to your support we were there to help. Jason served in the military for ten years before a roadside bomb in Afghanistan left him deaf in one ear and ended his service. Although he initially adjusted well to civilian life, working as a security guard in London, his mental health began to deteriorate two years later. He pushed away those trying to help him, became involved with the wrong crowd, and developed issues with alcohol and drugs. Eventually, he lost both his job and his accommodation.
A friend encouraged him to contact the Royal British Legion, which became a turning point. The RBL provided him with temporary accommodation and ensured he had enough money for food until he could return to work. Jason says their support prevented him from becoming homeless, and he hadn’t realised how extensive their welfare services were.
Thanks to this support, Jason rebuilt his life. He encourages supporters to the RBL and Poppy Raffles to remember that even small contributions can have a life-saving impact on veterans and their families.
