When Santana, a donkey in Zimbabwe, broke his leg after falling into a ditch, his future looked bleak. Without urgent care, he could have suffered persistent pain and faced lifelong complications.

Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, our dedicated team was able to act without delay. In partnership with Veterinarians for Animal Welfare Zimbabwe (VAWZ), we provide vital care and support for working horses, ponies, donkeys, mules and their owners. Santana received immediate treatment, a plaster cast and weeks of attentive care from our skilled staff. His recovery wasn’t just life-changing for him — it also gave his owner hope and reassurance that their beloved donkey would be safe and well.

Today, Santana is back on his feet — healthy, happy and completely pain-free. He’s just one of hundreds of donkeys, horses, ponies and mules we rescue and rehabilitate both in the UK and overseas each year.
