About Us

We have proudly served the community of East Berkshire and South Buckinghamshire since 1987. We provide specialist palliative and end-of-life care for people with a life-limiting condition, aged 16 years and over, as well as vital support for their families. Our services are free of charge to those in our community who need it, thanks to the generous people and organisations in our community.

We provide a safe and caring environment for those facing a life-limiting diagnosis. We are committed to delivering care that is agile and responsive, providing the best clinical and therapeutic support within our Hospice and in their homes.

Jan’s Story

Jan supports Thames Hospice because we cared for her son Paul after he was diagnosed with a brain tumour. Paul was so full of life, and even after his diagnosis he still wanted to pursue new experiences like seeing the Northern Lights.

Jan had been caring for Paul at home, but after a stressful hospital admission, he was admitted to the Hospice. Jan recalled, “It was a relief to see him so settled. I remember all the staff being kind and caring and doing their very best.” Sadly, Paul was only at the Hospice for three days before he died. Later, Jan met with Melanie from the counselling team who helped her to process her grief.

Today Jan gives back to the Hospice by volunteering with our Inpatient Services team, “I wanted to give something back after my personal experience. I love talking to patients and families – helping them, even in a small way makes such a difference.”
